Weka Courtesy/Marker Lamp.

Client: Hella New Zealand Ltd.

The existing lamps in this category were awkward to install because a rectangular hole had to be cut out. The new design changed this to a central 10mm hole drilled in the mounting surface. The central hole made alignment and sealing much easier, and reduced install labour by about 50%.

The new lamp was designed for automated assembly processes as much as possible. Different variants were possible by using different optic inserts in the Lens tool combined with different coloured LED circuit boards. This permitted a large range of interior courtesy lamps and vehicle lamps to be made, including; side marker, front end outline, and rear marker lamps, all using the same basic assembly process.

Different Lenses and different LED circuit boards could be assembled into different variants.

Optional finishes included anti-theft plastic screw caps or a snap on stainless steel cover. The fully sealed lamp uses a high impact grade of optical nylon for the Lens, able to withstand most normal vehicle speed ballistic impacts from small stones.
