Return-To-Door Handles Project

Return-To-Door Handles.

Client: Ingersoll Rand.

Rendering of the Trilo style.

This project originated from a need for new styles of handles that complied with public building access legislation around ease of use for disabled users.

Known as ‘RTD’ handles (return to door), these handles are easier for people with disabilities to use because they take less strength and dexterity to manipulate due to the returns on the ends of the levers.

The handles had to fit existing escutcheon designs and also had to fit through the openings on the door mechanism covers during installation.  From a design point of view this project had a nice mix of ergonomics, aesthetics and functional compliance criteria to satisfy.

Role: Senior Industrial Designer.

Tasks: Concept development through to implementation.
