Kingfisher Truck Tail Lamp.

Client: Hella New Zealand Ltd/Hella India Ltd.

Hella NZ was given the task of designing Hella India’s first LED automotive lamp.  This lamp needed to cover Stop-Tail-Indicator-Reverse and Number Plate functions.  Designed to meet a challenging price point and to meet the rigours experienced by trucks on the Indian sub-continent, the project included tool design and production, alpha build runs, certification submission support, production transfer to India and support with full quality documentation to meet stringent automotive customer requirements. A unique innovation was the development of a removable bolting system that was very forgiving with mounting tolerances and ensured much greater integrity of the enclosure housing by isolating the bolt head direct load path from the enclosure itself.

Mercedes were a lead customer in India, which led to Mercedes in Germany wanting to know why their trucks in India were being offered with LED tail lamps, while their trucks in Germany were not.
